When we were young
It was always me lead you astray
As the years passed, the roles reversed
It was you that lead the way
Convinced me that ear piercing
Wouldn’t hurt a bit
And paragliding in Corfu
I nearly had a fit!
You took me on the scary rides
The first at Poulton Fair
The Corkscrew Alton Towers
Was one of many dares
Always gentle persuasion
There is no going back
Open your eyes! You shout
No chance mate, I’ll have a heart attack!
When walking once at Stannah
We were invited on a trip
A power boat ride
Where to? We asked
The Isle of Man, the driver let it slip
The ‘Captain’ towed the caravan
To Coniston, our first holiday
Along with two life jackets and a whistle
Should we ever go astray
In later years to visit you
I braved the motorway
The traffic jammed, it poured with rain
You said ’oh forgot it’s Derby Day
A bridesmaid at my wedding
You helped me with my dress
When nature called, you lead the way
I could have been a mess
The holiday in Turkey
With all your lovely friends
Provides me with more memories
I know will never end
We had the time more lately
To be ‘ladies who do lunch’
The Shard and Halo café
Were the best of all the bunch
Sometimes The Three Muskateers
That’s you, and Ian and me
But often just the two of us
Cappuccino and herb tea
I often made a purchase
Which you called little treats
Enjoy and never save for best
A motto hard to beat
And so my friend I say goodbye
While Angels hold your hand
And guide you to a better place
Not far away, I’ll not be far behind
